The photo was taken on 4 August 1890 at the Derry family's house in Lenton, Nottingham. Reuben is on the far right of the picture with his friend Joseph Derry next to him. Other members of the Derry family are present. The young woman in the centre of the picture is Joseph's daughter Polly, now married. Her baby is in the pram.
